Benefits of Virtual Reality Gaming

This is the era of digital technology. The world has advanced over the years through different forms of technological advancement; has achieved unthinkable medical breakthroughs and in coherence with the world, the gaming industry has progressed greatly worldwide.

The emergence of video games had created a new height for the entertainment industry. Video gaming was never limited to any age group or just for any particular gender. People of all ages have always participated and took keen interest in this form of entertainment. Since the 1950’s, virtual reality has been used in comic book adaptations as well as virtual reality movie; and that is the root idea of virtual reality gaming. Now this has become a booming industry as it earns revenue in billions. Not only the games themselves but also the addition gaming gears required for the full 36 degree experience of gaming has a scope for a multi-billion business.

Virtual reality gaming is basically where the users can emerge themselves into the game more, by actually interacting with the gaming environment which is a three-dimensional environment. This is the core part of virtual reality gaming as it acts as a replacement of the real world; the imaginary or virtual world in front of the eyes seems more realistic. And it does so because the digital world keeps getting updated and changes images and views according to the user’s decision where they want to turn or what activity they want to carry out.

Virtual reality gaming is an integration of the virtual reality headsets, physical environment which can be multi projected and in which the user immerges themselves into the imaginary world. Other than the goggles, motion sensing trackers or controllers are very crucial, so the hands after all control all movements. The combination of sounds, realistic images, and different sensations and so on makes the experience almost real. The users can interact with virtual objects, as they look around with full 360 view but the proper and necessary virtual reality equipments are required. The required equipments are head-mounted goggles with a virtual reality screen in front of the eyes as they are part of the Virtual reality headset; the effect is often enhanced by large TV screens which can create physical space for better gaming experience. The experience is as if the user got transferred to the digital world.

Other than the head-mounted Virtual reality headset, virtual reality gaming can also use CAVE. It is when the user or the viewer’s vision is surrounded by world fixed displays and that becomes the virtual world around the user.

Virtual reality is often highlighted for the cons that come with it. Some examples can be physical imbalance or even detachment from the real world. Physical imbalance may include side effects in the bodies, muscle cramps, back pains, people with poor vision have to wear the headsets over their spectacles which can be very uncomfortable leading to nauseated feeling. And also detachment from real world is undeniable as it transports the user to another digital world.

However, the pros of virtual reality outweigh the cons greatly. Virtual reality is not only associated with gaming but it has great use in military training as for of simulations training and also has its benefit in medical purposes. Virtual reality has changed gaming in immeasurable ways; it has created immersion and interaction.

Previously in normal video games, it was just watching the games in the TV screens or Computer monitors and playing accordingly by closely monitoring. But Virtual reality provides a platform for the players to actually play it in the virtual environment. For example, playing conventional video games you see through computer monitors you are travelling to places but Virtual reality actually makes it possible for you to experience it may feel like and give you visual tantalizations to actually travel to that place and get a full thrill.

vr is everywhere

Also if you are playing horror games, in typical video games the best players can do is shoot the antagonistic characters using controllers while watching their avatars on screen. However the interaction part of a virtual reality game comes into play, now as the players are in the artificial environment they feel as though they are killing the characters in front of them not just their avatars through screen. They can actually interact with characters of the games.

Another benefit of Virtual reality gaming is that the games are dynamic. Through bio-sensing, the presence of the persons playing the games is detected. So through the motion sensing the movement of the gamers are detected and input into the computer as data; so the computer interpret these stimuli and responses as actions which are shown on the screen. So depending on these dynamic movements the games get updated every moment and carry forward the game accordingly based on the movements.

So the benefits outweigh the disadvantages caused due to virtual reality. The trend of VR gaming is trending now more than ever. It is hard for the thrilling experience not to excite any individuals.

Virtual Reality Gaming – End of all outdoor activities?

Despite the overwhelming interaction and living experience, a user is exposed to from Virtual Reality gaming, there are some downsides to it. The most major disadvantage is a disassociation of reality. This means that a player spends so much time immersed in VR gaming, that they can’t tell the difference between reality and the VR when they are done playing. A study done in Canada tested if there was an actual correlation between dissociation and VR. They found that there was an overall increase in dissociation after they were exposed to VR. They also found that this increase was greater in subjects with greater dissociation before being exposed to VR. The study also believes that prolonged exposure in VR could result in gaming addiction (Aardema, O’Connor, Cote & Taillon, 2010). Based on the information from the study, it can be concluded that the more immersed the gamer is in VR, the greater their dissociation in reality will be. This poses a big problem since complete immersion is the final goal of VR gaming. It’s increasingly easy to buy games PC from gameshops as downloads.

In some cases, VR leads to desensitizing results that interfere with the ability to perceive and react to real experiences, or that encourage the choice of VR over real life. There is an addictive quality of Virtual Reality environments that should not be ignored. Those who are regular users of these spaces, even in its developmental state find that it can be hard to stay away. Users find themselves in some cases, preferring the virtual world to the real one. If these anecdotal experiences are being reported by a very small sample size what will be the impact on entire cultures that embrace this technology? Considerations of Virtual Reality must extend into the world of human activity and definitions of normal behavior. And as a reminder most of us who love science fiction have a sense of what true Virtual Reality really is.

Video games are not designed to burn off a lot of energy. They are not aerobic in any way, nor are they able to increase physical fitness. Outdoor activities are aerobic, even if a person simply takes up walking. This means that energy is burnt off which helps to increase physical fitness. Outdoor activities are not really set up to help a person concentrate. In fact, they often involve allowing the mind to wander, as this is often part of the relaxing element involved with outdoor activities. Outdoor activities that involve games are just as competitive as video games, and so are good for people on a psychological level. Encouraging healthy competition is what helps people strive to be better. Outdoor activities do not stimulate logic and problem solving elements in the mind, but does stimulate spatial and lateral thinking elements in the brain. It also helps to build mind to body coordination, whereas video games only stimulate hand-to-eye coordination. Outdoor activities are far more social than video games, which mean they help people to become more sociable. They make it easier for people to come together in groups and take part in social activities.

no more outdoor activities with vr

Today’s children are different from the children of previous generations. They are more interested in playing video games or sitting hours on the play stations than in playing outdoor games. They are more technology oriented. It is really amazing that the age of the child does not matter at all while playing these games. No matter how young the child is he knows everything about the features of computer and mobile phones but do not know team work due to lack of outdoor games play. The hundreds of channels on television and internet have helped to increase the I.Q level of the children. This has made children much more organized. This is the main reason why they do not know about being a team player anymore. They lack the stamina and strength of the previous generations. The children of today are mentally active. They are not physically active. We are depriving the child from developing his personality. The fact is that even the parents of these children prefer them playing indoors under the air conditioner instead of playing outdoor games and getting dirty. VR Gaming taking over Reality?

People have always wanted to master their surroundings, to extend our limits. We want our hands to be able to do more; that’s why we have tools. VR allows us to go beyond the limitations to do anything that can be computed. If you want to create a mile high tower made out of tooth-picks, you can do it. And when you put that form of technology in video games, it’s turned an absolute paradise for kids, teens and gamers of all ages. With the all the leading console and game manufacturers bringing in VR technology to their products, the VR gaming industry is sky-rocketing. But can this digitally simulated reality disassociate the user from actual reality? What price do we actually pay to integrate VR gaming into our lives? Let’s find out.

It’s addictive and even “preferable” by some.

In some cases, VR results to desensitizing conclusions that interrupt one’s ability to perceive and react to real-life experiences, or that encourage the choice of VR over real life. There is an addictive quality of Virtual Reality environments that cannot be ignored. Those who are regular users of VR, even in its initial state find that it can be hard to stay away from. Users find themselves in a few cases, preferring the virtual world over the real one. If these experiences are being reported by a very small sample size what will be the impact on entire masses that will bring this technology in gaming platforms into their homes? Considerations of Virtual Reality must extend into the world of human activity and definitions of normal behavior. And as a reminder most of us who love science fiction have a sense of what true Virtual Reality really is. It hampers interaction of the user with real world. If one can see and experience the world from your living room, would you ever really need to leave the house? AR and VR may provide new ways for people to communicate, but they could also possibly take away an important aspect of our social life that involves around human interaction.

Another major issue that arises from VR is its medical consequences.  The more time spend using this technology the less active people can be. This lack of exercise is shown to cause major health problems and is linked to cutting years off peoples’ lives. In addition, some of these health problems can be caused even when using the product for one of its advantages. For example some of these virtual reality programs, as mentioned earlier, are being used for military training. These programs, or video games, are being sold to the public for recreational use by any person willing to purchase it. Putting these programs, training soldiers to kill, in the wrong hands can lead to dire consequences including mental disorders and possible harm to society as a whole. This definitely implies that consumers of this product can be labeled losers, as well as winners.

Isolation.

Immersive virtual reality gives the user a feel similar to the actual World. Addicts to this technology may forget the existence of life outside immersive reality. They become so attached to their devices and consider them their partners. Once this happens their mind is tilted. They are made to believe in the equipment’s more. This leads to their isolation. They isolate themselves from other things and people since they consider their World complete with their immersive virtual devices. Gradually addicts to immersive virtual reality graduate to new levels of addiction. One of the most severe conditions associated with addicts is depression. The technology interferes with the brain stimuli of the user. Addicts tend to reason that everybody functions like the characters in virtual reality. They forget the technology is fiction and they live in a real World.

It can make you nauseous. Yes. Really.

VR-induced nausea is a very real thing. It’s hard to predict when it’ll happen. For different people, it happens with different games and experiences. Some game developers have slowly tweaked the design of some games to be less nausea-inducing — for instance, having a cockpit around you seems to help. VR can have neurological effects because of its strangely realistic simulated motion. “Simulator sickness” is a condition suffered in flight simulations, and “virtual reality sickness,” a close cousin, has been around since the early days of VR. While lag times and app design have reduced it tremendously, it still exists at times, and I don’t know anyone who hasn’t had at least a few issues with fatigue, nausea or wooziness over time. Maybe it’s something to get used to. Maybe the hardware still needs to improve. Maybe human beings will always need to take breaks when using VR.

Invades thy Privacy.

Just like other modern technologies on the market, AR & VR can be prone to data hacks as well – and that’s a scary thing, considering how much data is connected to virtual environments. Many people also fear the way in which personal data might be used by authorities in order to track or control individuals.

It’s expensive. How much? A lot.

The video gaming industry is booming. With an endless plethora of tech swooping in, the use of VR is the latest addition to this stream of bounties for gamers to spend their cash on. But it’s expensive. A lot. The Oculus VR is now being sold for $470 (roughly 350 British Pound). With the growing competition in the gaming industry, there is absolute certainty that we will see the arrival of many more versatile and expensive VR tech in future video games. Even though a lot of people will still buy it, the financial strain it puts them under is still considerable for consumers to contend with.

 Finally…

While VR is certainly an incredibly exciting development, especially in the gaming world, there is more research that needs to be done on how this physically and psychologically can affect frequent users. Best advice? Take a little time to read the included safety manuals if it’s your first time using VR. There has to be a balance between hyper-realism and production time. And Virtually Reality Gaming just adds another dimension to this era of gaming, further rooting out hopes of encouraging outdoor activities.
